Parish Councils often own property in their area, ranging from parks and allotments to cemeteries and offices. They hold the land for the benefit of their community. The land-holding is sometimes devolved to a local charity, often one constituted for the purpose. Larger Parish and Town Councils often own their office buildings and many Parishes have ancient parish lands which they own and let out to smallholders or as allotments. It is good practice to review the assets of a Parish Council every five or ten years, to make sure that you know exactly what you own and to ensure that you are getting ‘best value’ from the land ownership. Digital mapping may not be affordable, but Voluntary First Registration (click here) is affordable and well worth doing. Land owners sometimes get into boundary disputes with over-zealous neighbours and we have considerable experience of resolving these disputes. |
